Expert Witness – Roles, Responsibilities, & Business – Part 1 (Spring ’19)

May 2 @ 09:30 - 16:30

This event deals with the roles, responsibilities and perils of psychologists as expert witnesses and provides an indispensable guide to the work and business aspects of acting as an expert witness.

Many psychologists find themselves being offered work as an expert witness and yet are often unaware of the additional responsibilities this brings.

This workshop ensures an understanding of the role of the expert, their importance in the court system and how to approach this as a business to create an income for the NHS Trust or one’s private practice.

Throughout the workshop the constant ethical tensions between being a practitioner psychologist and expert witness will be discussed and common errors will be explored to aid in the prevention of experiencing devastating criticism of the psychologist by the judge.

This training is in a small group environment to assist psychologists to learn how to present their existing knowledge at its best in legal settings.

Target audience

This workshop is intended for HCPC registered practitioner psychologists or those towards the completion of their accredited training.

It is particularly suitable for anyone considering embarking on practice as an Expert Witness but will also be a useful refresher for those who may have found themselves unexpectedly taking on this role.

This is skills based training for psychologists acting as expert witnesses. It is strongly recommended that you attend Part 1, 2 and 3 sequentially and before attending Part 4.
