Coffee With Susan – High Court Ruling on Bell-v-Tavistock
December 9, 2020 @ 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm UTC+0£10.00
On 01 December the High Court issued its ruling in Bell-v-Tavistock, essentially answering the question of informed consent by under-18s for gender altering treatment, particularly the use of puberty blockers and other drugs. Their decision will dramatically change how this has been approached and the NHS has already altered its pathways. The defendants have indicated they will appeal to the Supreme Court.
What do YOU think?
This is an invitation to participate in an informal, confidential (no recording), open discussion led by Dr Susan van Scoyoc about the ruling. Participants should download and read the rather long ruling by the court, which is available on the below link from our Dropbox account.
The ruling raises a number of excellent discussion points including, of course, the psychological effects; the apparent failure to analyse important data as noted by the court; the ability of children under 18 to understand life changing consequences of decisions; and more which you’ll no doubt pick up on and bring to the discussion.
It goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway — this is an open discussion where respect, manners, politeness, and acceptance of others’ views is paramount. This is an opportunity and an invitation to share your views with others and consider the ramifications of this ruling.
We are charging a nominal £10.00 fee to attend and attendance is limited to 12. If you try to pay and get bounced to our “sorry” page then it means it’s full and you have not been charged!
Brew a cup of coffee…or something stronger…and join Susan for what is sure to be an invigorating discussion of a very hot topic. Share what you think; what you know; and what this might mean.
